Developer API
A small, read-only API over the public, pseudonymous parts of 1in8B: the notes players leave about ended lives and the links they share. No keys, no accounts, no cost.
Who this is for
Researchers, students and hobbyists who want to read the public, pseudonymous side of 1in8B without opening a browser. The API serves the same data the public site shows: it adds nothing private and takes nothing away from the game.
Shared notes feed
GET /api/posts?lang=en returns the most recent shared notes as JSON: {"ok":true,"posts":[…],"more":false}. Each post carries id, lang, name (a fictional life name), iso (a country code), sex, age, text, rem (how many players remembered it) and at (Unix milliseconds). Append &before=<last id> to page backwards in time. lang filters by a site language code; omitting or misspelling it returns all languages mixed, so pass lang=en for English.
Shared life links
A shareable result can be published as a short link, /s/<key>. Opening the link shows only a display name, a country and an age. Links are kept for 120 days; diaries, choices and causes of death are never included.
Site discovery
/robots.txt lists the crawl rules and /sitemap.xml enumerates every public page, including this one.
Ground rules
Credit 1in8B (in8b.com) when you present the data. Keep it to about one request per second and cache what you can. The content is fiction informed by public country statistics: never present it as a prediction about any real person, and do not use it to build a clone of the game or to train models that imitate it.
What is not public
Posting, remembering, reporting and deleting notes stay inside the game behind their own protections and are not part of this API. Cloud Life Keep backups, diaries and unfinished lives are never exposed. Cross-origin browser calls are not enabled, so read the feed from a server. There is no account, quota dashboard or status page; if a call fails, wait and try later.
Changes and contact
Endpoints may change as the game evolves; material changes will be noted on this page. Questions and reports: [email protected].
